The solution
Giraffes, guests, recycling
Nature conservation and waste minimisation go hand in hand. As part of the park’s sustainable development, Knuthenborg Safaripark has introduced the New Loops deposit-return system, with return machines strategically placed throughout the park. This makes it easy for visitors to return used cups and packaging, wherever they are during their visit.
In partnership with BC Catering, clean reusable cups are delivered to Knuthenborg Safaripark, whilst the used cups are collected alongside BC Catering’s regular deliveries. By utilising an existing distribution network, extra transport is avoided, logistical costs are reduced and a more efficient return solution is created.
A complete solution
At Restaurant Flintehuset, drinks are now served in reusable cups with a deposit. When guests have finished, the cups can easily be returned to New Loops return points, after which they are collected, washed and put back into circulation as part of the same circular system.
The solution enables Knuthenborg to reduce its use of disposable cups without changing its day-to-day operations. New Loop handles the logistics behind the system – from delivery and deposit to collection and professional washing – so that staff can focus on the guest experience.
For visitors, the experience is simple: they are served their drinks in a sturdy reusable cup, pay a deposit and return the cup as they continue their visit around the park.
A common infrastructure for recycling
Instead of setting up its own return system, Knuthenborg Safaripark is part of a shared recycling infrastructure, in which packaging circulates through a single integrated system for deposits, logistics and washing.
The more cafés, attractions and events that link up to the same infrastructure, the greater the impact will be.
