An experience that leaves its mark – just not on nature
Every day, thousands of visitors pass through the gates of Copenhagen Zoo. They come to see animals from all over the world, but the visit is also about something bigger – about fostering an understanding of nature and our responsibility to look after it. That ambition doesn’t stop at the animal enclosures.
A roar for recycling
Copenhagen Zoo has introduced a return system for reusable cups, making it easy for visitors to choose to reuse as a natural part of their visit. Drinks are served in a reusable cup, and the deposit is automatically refunded when the cup is returned to one of the zoo’s return points. The cup is professionally washed and put back into circulation, where it can be used again and again.
Visitors also have the opportunity to put their deposit to even better use. Instead of having the amount refunded, the deposit can be donated directly to Copenhagen Zoo’s work on nature conservation, biodiversity and the protection of endangered species. In this way, a cup of coffee or a soft drink also becomes a small opportunity to support the work that the ZOO carries out every day – both in Denmark and internationally.
A common infrastructure for recycling
Instead of setting up its own return system, the Zoo is joining a shared recycling infrastructure, in which packaging circulates through a single, integrated system for deposits, logistics and washing.
The more cafés, attractions and events that link up to the same infrastructure, the greater the impact will be.
How does it work?
How to get your deposit back
Step 1.
SCAN THE QR CODE ON THE CUP
The first time you use the system, scan the unique QR code on the used packaging with your device and register your account details to receive the deposit transfer.
Step 2.
Scan the qr code on Returnbox
Then scan the QR code on the return container and follow the instructions in the web app throughout the process.
Step 3.
Scan your used packaging
Scan all the packaging you want to return and see an overview of how much deposit you get back.
Step 4.
Return the packaging in the Returnbox
Drop off the scanned packaging in the Returnbox and press finish in the web app. The deposit is automatically paid to the linked card.
